Each month, Bellwyck Pharma Services will be shining a spotlight on some of our brightest experts in our Meet the Team Spotlight features.

For our next Spotlight, we’d like to introduce Sharlett Burgess – Bellwyck Pharma Services Vice President of North American Quality Assurance. Sharlett has been with Bellwyck for more than five years and has gained over 25 years of experience within the clinical and commercial packaging field.

 

Within those five years at Bellwyck Pharma Services, Sharlett has been integral in the success of:

       The opening of Bellwyck’s Clinical site in West Chester, Ohio

       Hosted client audits and provided documentation required to migrate clinical material to new locations in West Chester Ohio and Burlington Ontario

       Completion of successful FDA and HPFBI audits

       Increasing Quality Assurance vigilance and establishing a strong Quality Assurance presence, knowledge and programs to promote first time quality for packaging activities at all Bellwyck Pharma Services’ sites

       Reducing the deviations generated monthly by >50% at Bellwyck Pharma Services’ commercial packaging site

 

We sat down with Sharlett to discuss her experience in the pharmaceutical packaging field, here’s what she had to say:

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

A typical day for me involves discussions with new and existing customers to provide solutions to meet their current and future packaging needs. Daily, I lead my dedicated and flexible team in the packaging of quality product to our customers on time. My team and I work collaboratively together and with our clients to find innovative solutions to meet every challenge presented to us.  It is this flexibility that allows us to be recognized by our customers as their first-choice solutions provider.

I am currently working on developing procedures, processes and training modules in support of the implementation of serialization at our Commercial Packaging site this year. This is an example of how Bellwyck is working hard to meet the needs of their customers. We strive to be proactive in our approach to ensure we are ready when new regulatory requirements are introduced in the areas of Clinical and Commercial Packaging.

 

What is the favourite part of your day?

My favourite part of the day is first thing in the morning. It is during this time that I map out the course of my day. I identify what the day’s priorities are going to be and follow up with my team as required to ensure we are ready to address each one.

As a leader, it is this organized approach that allows me to provide the customer service that will ultimately lead to customer satisfaction. Each customer is given the attention they deserve every day.

 

What do you like most about working in the pharmaceutical packaging industry?

The thing that I like the most about working in the Pharma Services Industry is the satisfaction of knowing that the work I do makes a real difference in the life of so many patients.

As the head of Quality at Bellwyck Pharma Services, I ensure that procedures are in place to allow clinical trial materials and commercial products to be packaged at our sites that meet both the client and regulatory requirements. My number one responsibility is to assure the safety of the products we primary and secondary package to the patients/consumers across the globe who use them.

 

What do you find most challenging about working in the pharmaceutical packaging industry?

The attention to detail, the documentation requirements, the adherence to Regulatory and Client requirements are all things that could be challenging in the Pharma Services Industry. However, when robust procedures are in place and your staff are properly trained on these procedures, then you can successfully meet these challenges.

 

What is the best advice you were ever given (work, life, success related)?

The best advice I have ever been given about work, life and success was to make every interaction count. This is true at work and in every aspect of my life. Every time I interact with people I must do my best to allow that interaction to be meaningful.
