For our first spotlight, we’d like you to meet Olivia Burgess – Bellwyck Pharma Services’ Vice President of Operations. Olivia has been with Bellwyck for just over 5 years and has gained over 20 years within the commercial packaging field.
Here’s what Olivia had to say:
What does a typical day at Bellwyck look like for you?
“A typical day starts before I even get into the office, with reading shift reports from the afternoon & midnight shifts from the day prior. I like to know what I can expect for the day and how the site has performed on the off shifts. Each morning, the site management team gets together to debrief on Safety, Quality and Schedule. From there the day can take many different forms: Audits, Customer visits/meetings, time on the production floor, working on process improvements or strategic objectives with the group. Our main objective is to provide exceptional service, as a result, my day ebbs and flows based on the needs of our Customers.”
What are you currently working on?
“Currently I am working on a number process improvement initiatives. Looking at how we can streamline our processes to do things smarter and more efficiently. We are looking at where we can increase automation on the production floor.”
What is your favourite part of your day?
“My favorite part of the day is our morning site management meetings. I feel incredibly lucky to work with such an experienced team, and a team that functions so well together. We may have to deal with some challenging items but I am always impressed at how the team works through challenges and creates new opportunities.”
What do you like most about working in the commercial packaging industry?
“I like the fast pace, the variation in what we do, the fact that no day is the same. Each Customer comes to us with a unique requirement, whether it is a packaging design challenge or an aggressive launch date, and we get the opportunity to be solution providers almost every day. “
What do you find most challenging about working in the commercial packaging industry?
“I’m sure many people would find the variation in what we do and the pace at which we do it to be challenging. Each customer looking for their own customization of a process, a document etc. Honestly, I don’t see it as a challenge, but as an opportunity to find a process, a system or a document that is flexible enough to meet the needs of our varied Customers. I thrive in a fast paced environment and I love to find solutions, so I’m in the right place!”
What is the best advice you were ever given?
“Follow through on your commitments. Do what you say you will do. Both in work and your personal life.”
